We’re not just a nanny agency - we’re a living, breathing community of nurturing carers who walk alongside families with heart, presence and care.

Rugrats Helping Hands is a locally rooted nanny agency born in Byron Bay in 2012. Founded by Aaron Chant and lovingly passed into the hands of Tara Heather in 2023, Rugrats Helping Hands continues to grow with the same community-centred vision it began with.
At Rugrats, we take a village approach, meaning we work with your family like a trusted Big Sister, a wise Aunty, or a gentle Grandma would. We walk alongside you in the raising of your little ones - with deep care, joy, and reverence for this precious work.

We delight in a world where children are free to explore, imagine, and revel in wonder. That's why our carers are trained to join in on the fun, not just supervise.
Our Philosophy is Grounded in Our Four Pillars:
Presence
We leave our outside lives at the door and meet your child with full attention and open-hearted presence. This time is for them. They deserve to be met with our all.
Patience
Big emotions in little bodies need safe guidance. We offer calm curiosity, not correction. We don't expect children to be miniature adults - we honour the learning process and hold space for the unfolding.
Positivity
We focus on celebrating what’s going right. Rather than managing behaviour with rules alone, we use redirection, gentle guidance, and model the way forward with empathy and encouragement.
Play
Play is the language of children. Singing, dancing, make-believe and laughter -this is how we connect. If a child isn’t engaged, we find creative new ways to meet them with joy.

Meet Tara Heather
Founder of Rugrats Helping Hands & Village for Kids
Hi, I’m Tara - a heart-led early childhood educator, space holder, nature lover and proud eldest sister of five.
Caring for children has been second nature to me for as long as I can remember. I began working in the early childhood industry at just 17, drawn by an intuitive calling to nurture, guide and hold safe spaces for little ones to flourish. Over the past 15 years, I’ve walked many paths within the world of children's care—each one adding depth and richness to the way I run Rugrats Helping Hands.
About Our Carers
All Rugrats Helping Hands carers have extensive experience working with children, their WWCC/Bluecard and first aid. They have been personally vetted, they receive extensive induction training with a conscious parenting educator and are immersed in our ethos before joining your family.

Our Services
Couldn’t recommend enough! Our sitter Kelly was fantastic, she treated our son who was unwell and just wanted to be held while sleeping as if he was her own! She communicated with us beautifully throughout the 5 hours he was in her care! Reasonably priced and easy to communicate with.
Kristin Kuehl
Julia was fantastic! We had contact the day prior and throughout the day and evening when Julia had the girls. I really found the process super easy and I was very comfortable to leave my girls in Julia’s care.

We had Eryn look after our nine month old while we had a wedding to go to. This was the first time we have left our bub with anyone else. Eryn was very lovely and approachable. She kept our bub to her routine and updated us on how our bub was going throughout the evening. Would definitely recommend her :)
